Beating is for riot cops, not for news coverage. Sure, I believe in scoops and in competition. But I think we should at least explore collaboration with these guys, hear what they have to say.
Building a brand is something done with other people and other outlets, not without or against them. They’re in our community. Why not engage them? Inclusion infuses and enriches coverage, it doesn’t water it down. These outfits’ editorial stances haven’t gotten in the way of excellent fact- and event-based tweeting and use of other social-media platforms during this story.
